Danny Drinkwater will be given another chance by Burnley manager Sean Dyche after being ruled out for two weeks due to injuries sustained in a nightclub fight.
The Chelsea midfielder, on loan at Turf Moor, was assaulted by a group of men outside a Manchester club after allegedly trying to chat up the girlfriend of Scunthorpe United defender Kgosi Ntlhe.
Dyche has since held talks with Drinkwater over the unsavoury incident, and has pledged to support the England international’s bid to get his career back on track.
“First, I wanted to find out facts, which I did,” said the Burnley boss.
“Secondly, look at the reality of it and forget about him being a footballer, things happen in life, they are people. They are human beings and have private lives, which are sometimes not private.
“Sometimes people get in scrapes. He’s old enough and wise enough to know not to get in scrapes, but sometimes it happens.
“The other thing, and we’ve been big on that during our time here, you can’t just talk about development when it’s good news, you also to have work with players when it’s not quite so good.
“It’s been more of that sort of situation. I’ve had a chat with him about what happened, the situation that led to it. Now it’s a case of where we go from here. That’s where we’re at.
“He’s a player I had worked with before at Watford, quite a number of years ago, so I think I know a little bit about what he’s about.
“He’s had a lot happen since then, of course, with a lot of good successes in his career so I think we want to get him back to that really.
“This is just a bump in the situation. We want to make sure he gets back to being fully fit, playing well, the eye of the tiger that it takes to be a top player, which he has shown he can be.”

Drinkwater is yet to make his Premier League debut for the Clarets and did not make a single competitive appearance for the Blues under Maurizio Sarri, unless you count the Community Shield.
And Dyche revealed the midfielder’s return to top-flight action has been delayed further by the incident.
“That bit’s not ideal,” he said. “It’s not too serious, but it’s certainly a couple of weeks and then getting back on the grass and then getting another game in to catch up.”
